Choral Music for Advent and Christmas Keble College Chapel, Oxford OX1 3PG Monday 27th November 2017, 8pm
Christmas always begins early in Oxford and this feast of music by Schola Cantorum, the second concert directed by their new conductor, Steven Grahl, is a wonderful end of term preparation for the festivities. The carefully arranged programme (see detailed list below) embraces music from the twelfth to the twenty-first centuries, with many shades and contrasts. The opening chorale of J S Bach’s popular cantata, 'Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme' needs no introduction: some of the other pieces are less familiar, but the texts and music are all most appropriate for the season.
As in previous years, admission to this concert is free but there will be there will be an opportunity, as you leave, to make a contribution in support of the choir’s future activities.
